Despite Rushville out-hitting No. 1 Greensburg 7 to 5, the Pirates left town with a 6-2 victory over the Lions in baseball action.
The difference in the game came in the third inning. The Pirates benefited from a Rushville error, two walks and a bunt single to score three runs. Greensburg added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Mitchell Wagoner led the offensive attack for the Lions with two hits, a stolen base and an RBI. Keith Tressler added a double and a run scored. Chase Hamilton, Brad Busald, Caleb Wiles and Spenser Wilson all added singles for the Lions. Hamilton drove in the other Rushville run.
Busald pitched four innings for the Lions, allowing three hits, three walks and two earned runs. Wagoner went the final three innings, allowing one run on two hits with four strike outs.
In the junior varsity contest, the Pirates edged the Lions 8-7.
Rushville fought back to take a 7-6 lead heading to the seventh, but the Pirates rallied for the win.
Offensively, the Lions were led by Will Hogsett’s three hits and two RBIs. Elijah Miller added two hits and three RBIs. Spencer Fry and Noah Nigh both had an RBI.
