---- — The Lady Lion tennis team went 3-0 Saturday to claim the team title in the Rushville Invitational.

Cambridge City was second at 2-1 with Morristown third at 1-2 and Tri fourth at 0-3.

Individual medalists were Rushville’s Allison Wainwright at No. 1 singles, Cambridge City’s Libby Buhl at No. 2 singles, Cambridge City’s Jenny Oberhelman at No. 3 singles, Rushville’s Casey Yager and Jill Yager at No. 1 doubles and Rushville’s Nici Martin and Sarah Hershberger at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Lions improve to 7-5 overall.

“This is our first outright team win at our invitational during my tenure here and winning it was one of our two goals that we set for our season. We have a great bunch of seniors on the varsity and we plan to build on their experience the rest of the season as we prepare for the tournament,” Coach Heuer noted.

Rushville opened with a 5-0 victory over Tri then had a 5-0 win over Morristown and finished the day with a 3-2 victory over Cambridge City to secure the team title.

Pendleton sweeps Lady Lions on courts

PENDLETON – The Lady Lions traveled to former conference foe Pendleton Heights Thursday. The Lady Arabians posted the 5-0 win in varsity action, but the Lady Lions won the reserve match 3-2.

”We had to go deep into the line up to find a competitive performance tonight. Nici Martin and Sarah Hershberger playing at No. 2 doubles for the Lady Lions played well and were able to make their contest a close one,” Coach Heuer noted. “Our JV kids did a good job again tonight winning three or the five matches. I think the varsity scholar trip took a little starch out of our varsity and the wind chill tonight took most of what was left.”

At No. 1 singles, Allison Wainwright lost 6-0, 6-0 to Emma McCardwell. At No. 2 singles, Sarah Harpring fell 6-0, 6-0 to Carly Wilson. The No. 3 singles match also went 6-0, 6-0 as Sam Hammel defeated Katie Schroeder.

In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Casey Yager and Jill Yager lost 6-0, 6-1 to Audrey Corn and Kaleigh Corn. At No. 2 doubles, Sarah Hershberger and Nici Martin fell 7-5, 6-3 to Haley Augsberger and Brandy Stoker.
