Lady Lions shut out Panthers, 11-0

The Lady Lions softball team got to play on their home field for the first time since the first game of the year and they made the most of it. Rushville had 10 hits en route to the 10-0 victory over Knightstown.

Nicole Hoeing got the win in the circle for the Lady Lions – allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out two. The Lady Lion defense back Hoeing up with no errors in the contest.

Rushville took the 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Kiley Cook’s infield single got things started. Cook stole second and went to third on a passed ball. With one out, Brooke Niehoff’s single up the middle plated Cook. Shelbie Brown was hit by a pitch. Both runners moved up a base on a fielder’s choice. Kylie Martindale drove in two runs with a single up the middle and she eventually scored as Shelby Woods reached on an error.

Rushville added a run in the fourth. Cook reached on an error and stole second base. With Cook at third with two outs, Brown doubled to score Cook and put the Lady Lions up 5-0.

The Lady Lions ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with five runs on four hits. Martindale singled, went to second on a passed ball and third on a wild pitch. Woods drove in Martindale with a ground out. Hoeing followed with a single. McKenzie Woolston was inserted as the courtesy runner for Hoeing and went to second on a wild pitch. Pinch hitter Morgan Edwards reached on an error by the catcher with Woolston taking third and eventually scoring on a wild pitch. Cook walked and two runs scored on a single by Doyle. Niehoff was hit by a pitch and with two outs, Riley Lanham walked to load the bases. Martindale’s single to right ended the game.
