EC holds off Lady Lions, 2-0

ST. LEON – The Lady Lion softball team traveled to East Central Saturday and were defeated by the Lady Trojans 2-0.

Rushville was retired in order in the top of the first and the Lady Trojans threatened in the home half. With one out, Wallenweber reached on an error and was at third after a single by Sturgill. With Wilhelm being hit by pitch, East Central had the bases loaded and one out. Decker flew out to Shelbie Brown in the left field and Brown threw a strike to Riley Lanham at the plate to double up Wallenweber.

The Lady Lions had a pair of two-out singles – Kylie Martindale and Nicole Hoeing – in the second, but could not push across a run.

East Central scored two runs on three hits and one Rushville error in the bottom of the second.

Gabby Doyle singled to start the third inning, but was forced at second on a Catie Liggett fielder’s choice. Two grounds outs ended the inning for the Lady Lions.

Rushville went down in order in the fourth. Doyle singled in the top of the fifth with two outs, but was stranded. Brown had a two-out walk in the sixth and Tori Colestock was hit by a pitch in the seventh, but the Lady Trojans held the Lady Lions scoreless to post the 2-0 conference win.

In the junior varsity game, East Central scored one run in the first, four runs in the third, two runs in the fourth and four runs in the sixth to win 11-1. The Lady Lions committed eight errors in the loss.

Rushville had three hits on the day – Katelyn Buckley, Kaitlyn Chandler and Lilly Cramer.
