Lady Lions suffer first loss

---- — NEW PALESTINE – The Lady Lions tennis team suffered its first loss of the season 4-1 to the hands of the Lady Dragons of New Palestine. Rushville is 2-1 on the year.

The lone win for the Lady Lions came at No. 1 singles, where Allison Wainwright defeated Maddie smith 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 2 singles, Sarah Harpring lost 6-1, 6-0 to Kristi LeBeau. At No. 3 singles, Katie Schroeder fell 6-2, 6-2 to Emily Kiefer.

The No. 1 doubles team of Casey Yager and Jill Yager lost 6-1, 6-2 to Kara Miller and Kylar Litteral. The No. 2 doubles team of Nici Martin and Sarah Hershberger lost 6-4, 6-4 to Lauren Hardebeck and Alana Henry.

“The result at New Palestine was typical of what we expect from a strong program. I think our kids performed a little better than their scores might indicate. They kept a positive attitude and tried to take advantage of an opportunity to benefit from the match-up. We suffered the loss, but feel like we gained more from the experience than our opponents did,” Coach Heuer noted.

In junior varsity singles, Haley Riddell won 6-4. Riko Itakura lost 6-3. Courtney Hall won 6-4. Bridgette Welter lost 6-4. Natali Miller won 6-4 and Riddell won 6-0.

In junior varsity doubles, Sarah Schombert and Larissa Dunn lost 6-2. Maddy Kasey and Abbey Whitaker lost 6-0. Emilee Rogers and Schombert lost 6-0. Itakura and Hall won 6-0.
