Lincoln edges Lady Lions 3-2

Cambridge City Lincoln pitcher Sydney Griffin was dominant in the circle as the Lady Golden Eagles face Rushville in softball action Thursday. The pitcher punched out 15 Lady Lions via the strike out en route to the 3-2 victory. The Lady Lions drop to 1-3 on the season.

In the top of the first with one out, Brooke Niehoff triple to the left center field gap, but was stranded at third base. Back-to-back triples by Lincoln led to a 1 -0 lead after one inning.

Griffin had four strike outs in the second inning (dropped third strike) and two more in the third. Lincoln added a run in the third to lead 2-0.

The Lady Lions went down in order via the strike out in the fourth before pushing across a run in the fifth. With one out in the top of the fifth,

Nicole Hoeing drew a walk and courtesy runner Gabby Doyle scored on the double by Tori Colestock.

The Lady Lions knotted the game in the sixth as Catie Liggett tripled to right field and scored on a wild pitch.

With the game even at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Lincoln got a bloop single to right with two outs to take the 3-2 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Hoeing singled, but that was all for the Lady Lions as Lincoln held on 3-2.

Rushville had just four hits in the game – triples by Liggett and Niehoff, a double by Colestock and single by Hoeing.

In junior varsity action, the Lady Lions fell to Connersville 11-8. The Spartans rallied for eight runs in the top of the seventh to steal the victory.

Rushville led 5-0 in the bottom of the second as Kaitlin Chandler singled and Jasmine Cook reached on an error with Chandler scoring. Cook, Megyn Kirchoff, Madison Owen and Lilly Cramer all scored in the inning. After Connersville scored two in the fourth, Owen scored for Rushville to make it 6-2. The Lady Spartans added another run in the fifth.

The Lady Lions added two in the sixth (Cramer and Madison Whittaker) before Connersville made the big comeback for the win.

The varsity Lady Lions jumped out to a 5-1 lead at Connersville, before eight Rushville errors allowed the Lady Spartans to rally for the 17-8 victory.
