Lions finish fifth

RUSHVILLE — Rushville had two individual champions at the New Palestine Invitational Saturday as Joe Garland won the 285 class and Garrett Hittle won the 170 class.

The host Dragons won the team title with 275.5 points and an event-high four champions. Roncalli was second with 206.5 followed by Martinsville 191.5, East Central 168, Rushville 144, Columbia City 132, Beech Grove 77 and Mt. Vernon 17.

Hittle won the championship match at 170 with a 7-4 victory over Jacob Bischoff of East Central. At 285, Garland won in overtime 5-3 over New Palestine’s Willie Bryan. Garland’s take down at the final horn of regulation sent the match to overtime and a take down in the extra session earned him the title.

Garland is 20-0 on the season and Hittle is 19-1.

The Lions placed in 13 of the 14 weight classes. Zach Roszell was sixth at 106. Cole Maggard was fourth at 113. Bailey Ford was fourth at 120. Tim Edwards took fifth at 126. Corey Judd was sixth at 132. Blake Wood finished fourth at 138. Jakob Lambert took sixth at 152. Doug Cohee was sixth at 160. James McLaughlin finished fifth at 182. Tristenn Miller was fifth at 195 and Robbie Hadley was fifth at 220.

The Lions compete in the HHC tournament Saturday at Yorktown. Start time is 9:30 a.m.
