Lady Lions blow out Lady Wildcats

RUSHVILLE — Eleven minutes. That is how long it took Franklin County to put points on

the scoreboard Wednesday at Rushville. In that time, the Lady Lions scored

25 and cruised to the 48-23 victory.

The Lady Lions improve to 11-2 while the Lady Wildcats drop to 1-12.

Sarah Cook scored the first seven points of the game and had 11 points in

the first quarter as the Lady Lions led 17-0 after the first eight minutes

of action. Mikayla Dougherty hit a pair of free throws to start the

scoring in the second quarter. After a bucket by Kelsi Ash, Cook scored

four straight to make it 25-0 with five minutes to play in the second

quarter.

The Lady Wildcats broke through with a bucket by Shelby Ronnebohm with

4:45 left in the first half. Rushville extended the lead to 30-4 before

Taylor Kocher scored a bucket and then hit a buzzer-beater from well

beyond the 3-point arc to make it 30-9 at the half.

The Lady Lions outscored the Lady Wildcats 13-8 in the third quarter.

Mackenzie Campbell’s 3-pointer opened the half and four straight from

Keragan Niehoff closed the quarter with the Lady Lions leading 43-17.

A slow fourth quarter saw just 11 points scored. Rushville’s first three

points came at the charity stripe – one each by Cook, Niehoff and Makayla

Herbert. Tayler Koors’ jumper capped the scoring on the night as the Lady

Lions posted the 48-23 victory.

Cook led all scorers with 20 points. Ronnebohm led the Lady Wildcats with

10.

In the junior varsity game, the Lady Lions rebounded from a scoreless

second quarter to rally for 11 points in the fourth quarter to send the

game to overtime. In the extra session, the Lady Lions outscored Franklin

County 5-2 for the 28-25 victory.

Rushville was led by Ellie Sammons with eight points. Tayler Koors had

six. Lexi Hall led the Lady Wildcats with 11 points.

The Lady Lion “C” team traveled to Cathedral Wednesday and fell 48-29.

Rushville is now 5-4 on the season.

For the Lady Lions, Keely Springman had seven points and 11 rebounds. Tori

Colestock added seven points and 10 rebounds. Katy Newbold finished with

seven points and two rebounds. Brooklyn Herbert had six points and two

rebounds. Desiree Evener added two points and one rebound. Katlyn Buckley

had one rebound.
