RICHMOND – The Richmond Red Devils used the familiarity of the local course to help edge Connersville in the IHSAA golf sectional Monday.
Richmond claimed the team title with a 325 team total. Connersville took second with 331 and Centerville was a distant third with 371. Those three teams will advance to the regional Friday at The Players Club in Muncie.
Cambridge City Lincoln finished fourth with 375 followed by Franklin County 377, Union County 379, Northeastern 396, Rushville 406, Hagerstown 415, Tri 417 and Seton Catholic 435.
Centerville’s Mason Rader earned sectional medalist honors with a (37-41) 78. Drew Barrett of Richmond, Tyler Kendall of Connersville, Evan Pflum of Connersville and Evan Williams of Richmond all finished with 79.
The top three individuals from non-advancing teams also qualify for the regional.
Eric Underwood of Lincoln fired a pair of 40s to card 80 and take the first qualifying spot. Tony Miller of Seton finished with (41-45) 86 to take the second spot.
Rushville’s Nate Hoeing (47-41) and Hagerstown’s Ben Tinkle (42-46) both finished with 88 to tie for third. Hoeing won the first sudden death playoff hole to earn his ticket to the regional.
Austin Tielking finished with (49-52) 101. Kyle Hewitt carded (57-51) 108. Christian Gosser was a shot back with (52-57) 109 and George Truster finished with (64-67) 131.
