Sheets selected Chairman of NFHS Officials Publications Committee

INDIANAPOLIS — David Sheets of Shelbyville has been selected as chairman of the National Federation of State High School Associations’ (NFHS) NFHS Officials Publications Committee. The NFHS Board of Directors approved the appointment at the 2013 NFHS Summer Meeting in Denver, Colo.

The NFHS Officials Publications Committee is responsible for educational and informational articles aimed at the men and women working as sports officials at the high school level around the nation. Formerly known as the NFHS Officials Quarterly, the present online format is known as NFHS Officiating Today.

Sheets, who was appointed as the Section 4 representative in 2010, is beginning his 39th season as an official, and currently works basketball, football and volleyball in Indiana. In addition, he has worked in Illinois and Virginia, where he also was a baseball and softball umpire. Sheets’ officiating experience includes decades of state tournament contests, as well as working at the state championship final level.

Sheets currently serves as senior vice president of RushShelby Energy, an electric cooperative serving consumers in nine east central Indiana counties. His responsibilities include education, customer service, advertising, legislative and communications work. As editor of the monthly company newsletter ELECTRAWATT, Sheets leads a team that has been honored with numerous national communications and publications awards.

Among his professional recognitions, Sheets earned the designation of Certified Rural Electric Communicator from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and Master Cooperative Communicator from the Cooperative Communicators Association.

During his career, Sheets have been involved with local radio, television and newspaper work, as well as being a partner in a public relations firm serving many national agricultural firms. He resides in Shelbyville with his wife Susan, and counts golf, travel and reading among his hobbies.
