NICK SPEIDEL OPENS SEASON WITH WIN AT MONTPELIER

RUSHVILLE — The Midwest TQ Racing League *presented by* Jenmarco.com opened their 2013

race season on Saturday evening June 15th at the Montpelier Motor

Speedway in Montpelier.

Four-time and defending champion Tate Martz entered the event on a five

race win streak but it was Muncie’s Nick Speidel who opened the year

strong by winning both the feature and his heat race. Speidel started the

feature in third place but motored by Elwood Sanitarium Haunted Attraction

polesitter Brett Hankins and Devin Fairchild on the opening lap and went

on to lead all twenty circuits for the ninth win of his career.

Martz, who had issues in his heat, started the feature in 15th place and

drove through the field to place second followed by Brett Hankins, Rick

Robinson and Jon Steed. Devin Fairchild, Bobby Walton, Cody Kiewitt,

Logan Arnold and Rex Griffin rounded out the top ten.

By improving thirteen positions Martz was named the Indy Race Parts Hard

Charger and Griffin, who had the best finish of four rookie drivers, was

the Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Race. Griffin also won the American

Racer Tires gift certificate. Robbie Roland was the Duane & Sonja

Alexander Hard Luck Driver and Perfect North Slopes heat winners were

Robinson and Speidel.

The next event on the MTQRL schedule will be Saturday June 22nd at the

Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville. The grandstand gates will

open at 5 p.m., with practice at 6 p.m., qualifications at 6:30 p.m., and

racing set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Racing will feature the MTQRL three-

quarter midgets and as an added bonus the 600cc sidewinder micro sprints.

Adult general admission is $8, children 7-12 are $5, and under 6 are

free.

On Friday evening June 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. Steed Motorsports,

with drivers Jon Steed and Bobby Walton, will have their cars displayed at

Dusty Flannery State Farm Insurance at 1514 N. Main Street in Rushville.

Coupons good for free children’s admission to the Shelbyville race will

be available (ages 7-12).
