Lady Lions cruise to fourth win

RICHMOND - With the host Lady Red Devils playing without two key starters, the Lady Lions rolled to their fourth straight win to open the season with a 64-24 victory over Richmond. The Lady Lions are 4-0 as they enter Saturday’s contest with Greenfield-Central. The Lady Red Devils suffer their first loss of the season and stand at 2-1.

Richmond’s Bailey Hillard opened the scoring with a 3-pointer. From that point on, the Lady Lion defense held Richmond to two points the rest of the quarter. Rushville countered with 16 points. Keragan Niehoff started a 7-0 run and capped it with a free throw. After another Hillard bucket, back-to-back Mackenzie Campbell buckets opened a 9-0 run. Lilly Cramer’s basket ended the quarter with the Lady Lions leading 16-5.

Niehoff opened the scoring the second quarter and after a traditional three-point play by Richmond’s Sarah Richards, Rushville went on a 12-0 run. Freshman Kaitlyn Howe drained a triple to get things started and Campbell’s bucket capped the spurt as Rushville led 30-8. The Lady Lions closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to grab a 35-10 half-time lead.

Rushville outscored the Lady Red Devils 17-7 in the third quarter to extend the advantage to 35 points (52-17) after three quarters.

Senior Kylie Martindale scored to start the fourth quarter as the Lady Lions put the game away with a 12-7 fourth quarter run to win 64-24.

Nine Lady Lions got into the scoring column with Campbell’s 15 leading the way. Richmond was led by Paetyn Claiborne with 11 points.

In the opening game, it was all Rushville as the Lady Lions led 15-5 after one quarter, 27-8 at the half and 41-8 after three quarters en route to the 47-16 victory.
