RUSHVILLE — The Lions fell in both games this past weekend – 68-50 at Class 3A No. 2 Greensburg and 70-58 at home against Shelbyville. The Lions drop to 7-9 overall as they prepare for Class 3A No. 6 Batesville Thursday on Senior Night.

On Friday, the No. 2 Pirates remained undefeated at home with a 68-50 victory over the Lions.

Greensburg had four players score in double figures. The difference in the game came in the third quarter as the Pirates double-up the Lions 24-12.

After Rushville jumped out to a 6-1 lead, the Pirates scored the next eight points, including a dunk by Sean Sellers.

The Lions remained in the game in the first half and trailed by just two points (29-27) at the half.

Rushville’s eighth 3-pointers kept hope alive for the Lions, until the big third quarter by the Pirates. Sellers led the way for the Pirates with 20 points and eight boards.

Bryant McIntosh added 13. Ryan Welage and Collin Rigney both had 12.

The Lions were led by Nate Hoeing with 18 points. Mitch Laird chipped in with seven. Alex Yurack and Hunter Orme both had six. Cameron Cox finished with five.

In the junior varsity game, the Pirates held off the Lions 51-50. Kris Combs led the Lions with 18 points. Bryce Dye finished with 14. Brad Busald had eight. Ricky Thompson added seven and Jon Seals had three. Greensburg was led by Tye Fleetwood with 13 points, Brad Wilson with 12 and Josiah Buell with 10.

On Saturday, the Lions were in the game heading to the fourth quarter just down one point. The inability to capitalize at the charity stripe by the Lions combined with the Golden Bears pouring in 27 fourth-quarter points doomed the Lions to the 70-58 loss.

Rushville had the early 2-0 lead on a bucket by Mitch Laird. The Lions did not lead again until the 2:49 mark of the second quarter. A 3-pointer by Nate Hoeing and bucket by Laird gave the Lions a 24-23 lead. Laird followed with a 3-pointer and after a triple by Shelbyville’s Jared Wise, Bryce Dye hit a 3-pointer to give Rushville the 30-26 lead at the half.

Shelbyville outscored the Lions 17-12 in the third quarter. There were three lead changes and four ties in the quarter. The game was tied at 34-34, 36-36, 38-38 and 40-40. Rushville’s Alex Yurack’s dunk gave the Lions the lead 42-40 late in the quarter, but a 3-pointer by Reilly Reinbold gave the Golden Bears the lead 43-42 after three quarter. Shelbyville never trailed again.

The Lions were 0-2 in the third quarter from the free throw line. Rushville missed five straight free throws (including the front end of a 1-and-1 bonus three times) in the fourth quarter. Those missed opportunities and the Golden Bears offensive surge of 27 points put the game out of reach for the Lions.

Rushville was led by the 13 points of both Hoeing and Laird. Yurack finished with 10 followed by Hunter Orme seven, Dye six, Nate Niehoff five and Cox four.

In the junior varsity game, the Lions held off the Golden Bears by two, 41-39, to improve to 10-6 on the season.

Dye led the Lions with 11 points followed by Nathan Borders (season high) nine points, Thompson eight points, Busald five points, Combs three points, Seals three points and Jeremy Hallgarth two points.
