Lions fifth at HHC wrestling meet

Hittle wins title at 170

RUSHVILLE —  The Lions traveled to Yorktown Saturday for the HHC tournament and finished fifth overall in the strong Hoosier Heritage Conference field. The host Tigers pulled the upset on the day winning the team title with 270 over favored New Palestine with 242. Greenfield-Central took third with 180.5 followed by Pendleton Heights 166, Rushville 136, Delta 98, Shelbyville 68.5 and Mt. Vernon 60.

Bright spots on the day for the Lions included Garrett Hittle win the individual title at 170, Robbie Hadley taking second at 220 and the Lions placing in 11 of the 14 weight divisions.

Hittle moved to 22-1 overall by winning the title at 170. He defeated Hunter Hiestand of Yorktown 8-2 in the championship match.

Hadley (20-4) had two pins on his way to the runner-up spot at 220. He fell to New Palestine's Gabe Estes in the final.

At 285, Joe Garland (23-1) took third. He suffered his first loss of the year to Shelbyville’s Tyler Uhls, but fought back to pin Pendleton Heights' Skyler Prol for third place.

Other results for the Lions included Zach Roszell sixth at 106, Bailey Ford fifth at 113, Cole Maggard fourth at 120, Corey Judd fifth at 132, Blake Wood fourth at 138, Doug Cohee sixth at 160, James McLaughlin fourth at 182 and Tristenn Miller fifth at 195.

The Lions travel to Milan for a 6-way Saturday.
