A pair of double-digit victories capped the Lady Lions' day in the Lady Cub Classic at Franklin Friday. Rushville opened the day with a 64-51 victory over Indian Creek and then took home the title with a 46-27 victory over host Franklin.
In the opener, the Lady Lions led 12-11 after the first quarter before the Lady Braves put together a big second quarter to lead 31-24 at the half. The Lady Lions went on a 12-point run in the third and outscored the Lady Braves 21-11 in the frame to take control of the game.
After taking the 45-42 lead into the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions outscored Indian Creek 19-9 in the fourth to secure the 64-51 victory.
Keragan Niehoff had a big game with a double-double: 10 points, 17 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Mackenzie Campbell finished with 16 points, three rebounds, two assists and four steals. Sarah Cook tallied 13 points four rebounds, three assists and one steal. Mikayla Dougherty was also in double figures with 10 points to go with four rebounds, six assists and one steal.
Kelsi Ash finished with nine points, five rebounds and one steal. Makayla Herbert added four points and five rebounds. Kaley Flannery had two points and Casey Yager had one rebound and one assist.
In the title game, the Lady Cubs tried to use a deliberate offense, but the Lady Lions countered with pounding the ball inside and back out to roll to the 46-27 victory.
Rushville led 8-6 after one quarter, but ballooned the lead to 23-13 at the half. The lead grew to 15 points (35-20) after three quarters and to the eventual 19-point margin.
Niehoff again posted a double-double: 12 points, 10 boards, three assists and one steal. Campbell had 21 points, seven rebounds, one assist and two steals. Cook added seven points, one rebound and four assists. Ash had six points, one rebound and one assist. Herbert grabbed two rebounds and Flannery had one steal. Dougherty added one rebound, one assist and three steals. Yager had one rebound and one assist.
The Lady Lions (10-2) host Franklin County (1-11) Wednesday.
