Lady Lions fifth at sectional

Liggett, Gulde advance

GREENSBURG – Coming into the golf sectional, the race for the final of three spots to advance as a team came down to three teams. The first two spots were going to go to Columbus North and Columbus East, both ranked. The final spot was between Rushville, Batesville and Greensburg.

The Lady Bulldogs took the lead after the first nine holes and carried that momentum through on the back nine to secure a spot in the regional field at New Castle.

Columbus North won the team title with 344. Columbus East was second with 346. Batesville finished with 373. Greensburg was fourth with 389 followed by Rushville 391, East Central 428, Oldenburg Academy 431, North Decatur 447, South Decatur 453, Milan 486, South Ripley 506 and Jac-Cen-Del incomplete.

Columbus North’s Sydney Anderson was the medalist with 72.

The top three individuals from none advancing teams also get the opportunity to play in the regional. Rushville took two of those spots as Catie Liggett and Abbey Gulde advance.

Greensburg’s Britney Biltz carded a 78 to earn a spot in the regional.

Liggett had a (42-44) 86 and Gulde had (47-51) 98.

Kylie Martindale finished her last sectional with (50-53) 103.

Whitley Disbro ended her high school golf career with (53-51) 104.

Freshman Megyn Kirchoff rounded out the scoring with (52-53) 105.

The regional will be held Saturday at Westwood Country Club in New Castle.
