Rushville opened the scoring, but visiting New Castle scored five unanswered goals to knock off the Lions 5-1 in soccer action.
Rushville’s Derrik Justice scored on a direct kick at the 22:25 mark of the first half to get the Lions on the board first.
New Castle answered with a goal at the 8:25 mark and then followed with two goals in a span of 30 seconds to take a 3-1 lead to the half.
The Trojans added two more goals in the second half to seal the 5-1 victory.
Justice and Dale Clifton both had two shots for the Lions. Ethan Foster, Treyton Meal, Bryce Dye and Jon Seals had the other shots for the Lions.
Rushville fell to New Castle in the junior varsity contest 3-1. Trey Newton-Gossett had the goal for Rushville.
Lions shut out at Connersville
Rushville traveled to Connersville to take on the Spartans and fell to the host squad 6-0.
“We played better defensively than the score indicates,” Coach Bob Beeler said. “We just couldn’t get anything done offensively. According to our stats, we only took two shots on goal and you’re not going to win many matches with those few shots.”
The junior varsity Lions fell 3-1 to the Spartans. Two penalties inside the 18 led to a pair of Spartan goals.
Coach John Foster noted the solid defensive play of Ethan Duncan and Austin Boylard. Trey Newton-Gossett scored the goal for the Lions.
