---- — The Benjamin Rush Middle School cross country teams hosted an invitational Saturday.
For the boys, the Cubs won the event with 44 points followed by Mount Vernon 52, South Decatur 104, Eastern Hancock 133, Morristown 145, Wes Del 146, and Centerville 187, with North Decatur, Knightstown and Franklin County incomplete.
Winning the boys’ race was Rushville’s Kyle Schindler, running the 3,000 meter (1.86 miles) race in 11:10. Also for the Cubs, Ira Griffith was fourth (11:41), Landis Gettinger seventh (11:56), Jacob Kirchoff 11th (12:14), Austin Kirby 21st (13:31), Nick Innis 22nd (13:43) and Noah Mullins 33rd (14:45).
On the cool Saturday morning, every Rushville runner stepped up and ran an early season best time.
For the girls, Eastern Hancock won the event with 31 points. Mt. Vernon and Rushville tied with 86, with the Marauders taking second because their sixth runner placed ahead of the Lady Cubs’ sixth runner. Other teams were North Decatur 90, Centerville 108, Knightstown 142, Wes Del 184, and Morristown 217, with Franklin County and South Decatur incomplete.
Taylor Stine of Eastern Hancock won the race in 12:39.
For Rushville, Charity Griffith was seventh (13:24) followed by Katlyn Keim 10th (13:41), Shannon Dougherty 12th (13:54), Kiara Thorp 19th (14:39), Megann Sasher 38th (15:38), Abby Gates 47th (16:29) and Jenna Geise 49th (17:12). Like the boys, every runner ran a season best time.
In boys’ reserve action, Errick Hayes was eighth (season best 15:06) and Lance Beard 12th (best 15:36). For the girls, Kaitlyn Miller was eighth (best 16:33), Macy Rolfe ninth (best 16:40), Maddy Lewis 13th, Clara Kemple 14th and Heather Stanley 18th.
The BRMS runners travel to Shelbyville Thursday before returning home Sept. 26 to host Lincoln.
