Indiana and Kentucky to meet on the hardwood

RUSHVILLE — Although the universities (Indiana and Kentucky) may not be playing on a regular schedule, the high school All-Star series between the two border states continues with action beginning Friday at Greenfield-Central. Top junior and senior players from around the state are apart of this annual classic and this area is well represented.

The Indiana Junior All-Stars will take on the Kentucky Junior All-Stars in a doubleheader with the opening game Friday at Greenfield-Central and the second game Saturday at St. Xavier High School in Louisville.

The girls games are scheduled for 5 p.m. with the boys to follow. Admission to both is $8.

For Indiana, there is a “core group” playing on both nights and then a “north group” playing in the games at Greenfield-Central and a “south group” playing in the games at St. Xavier.

For the junior girls, Erica Moore of Class 3A state Mt. Vernon is on the core group.

Rushville’s Mackenzie Campbell will play for the south group in the game Saturday at St. Xavier.

Bryant McIntosh of Class 3A state champion Greensburg is a member of the core group for the boys. The north group includes HHC player C.J. Coleman of Mt. Vernon. The south group includes Sean Sellers of Greensburg and Zach McRoberts of Carmel.

This is the second year for the junior Indiana All-Stars to square off against Kentucky.

The Junior Indiana All-Stars will take on the Senior Indiana All-Stars in two exhibition games. The first will be Monday at Sullivan and the second will be Wednesday at Tipton. The girls game is set for 6 p.m. with the boys following.

The Senior Indiana All-Stars will take on Kentucky on June 14 at Freedom Hall in Louisville and June 15 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Rushville also has ties to the Senior All-Star game as Rushville graduates Kevin Leising and Brent Dalrymple will be assistant coaches for the games against Kentucky. Leising is the head coach at Bluffton and has compiled 295 wins in his 21 years of coaching. Dalrymple has 184 wins in 14 years at North Daviess.
