Hello, bowling fans! This is Jim Ephlin, at the Rushville Bowl, where all the action is.
More action is starting up as we get the 2012-13 Youth Senior League on the lanes this Saturday. The Saturday Senior League is for all youth bowlers 6th grade thought 12th grade. It will start at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and will bowl for 10 weeks. Teams will be made up of four bowlers per team and bowl with handicap to determine winners of weekly matches. The cost is $8 per week and a one- time charge of $12 for membership into the USBC. We will have two different tournaments during the 10 week season plus bowlers can go to the state tourney at the end of the season.
You can sign up for league by stopping by Rushville Bowl or just call the center (932 - 5389) or go to our web page www.RushvilleBowl.com and sign up on line.
The Junior League for bowlers 5 years old to 12 has been on the lanes for two2 weeks now and I’m happy to announce we have 60 bowlers in the program. It’s popularity may be tied to the fact that each player receives his or her own bowling ball. I want to thank all the parents that have been helping. The goal is to introduce bowling to these younger age bowlers in a non competitive environment.
Todd Howard became the 11th person to record an 800 series in the 53 years of bowling at Rushville Bowl. Bowling on lanes 1 and 2 in the Pacesetter League, Todd put together 257 - 247 - 300 for an 804 series. Todd had bowled on the same pair two days earlier and went 254 - 240 and threw nothing but strike or nine the third game but had a couple of misses for 172.
Ken Howard has the highest at 842 which was the first one ever bowled in 1991. Jim Huddelston has the most 800 series at three and there are five other bowlers who have two each.
The Rushville Bowl High School Boys and Girls High School teams have started their seasons. Bowling for the girls are Jackie Bell, Morgan Hatten, Haylee Rains, Brandi Graham, Jessica Schletweg, Haylee Schweier and Samantha Woods. The boys are represented by Nick Hutchinson, Patrick Duffy, Dylan Beard, Dylan Kennedy, Jacob Richardson and J.T. Ephlin. On the boys team we have four sophomores so this team could be around awhile.
They bowl matches on Saturdays and are part of the Mid Indiana Bowling Conference. There are 13 boys teams and 10 girls team in the conference.
After the first two weeks of play, the girls are 3-0 while the boys team stands at 2-2. We will have a home match on Saturday, Dec. 8.
The Rushville USBC BA is hosting a food drive this week. Anyone bowling league is asked to bring a canned or non perishable item to the bowling center. We will make the donation to the local food pantry after the week.
See you soon! Thanksgiving at my house.
