LIBERTY – The Lady Lion tennis team opened the season with a 4-1 victory over Union County.
“It’s hard to find any precision on the court with a 25-mph wind gusting to 30, but our kids did a good job of fighting through the adverse weather conditions to get the win. It’s always good to get the season off to a good start,” Coach Heuer noted.
Allison Wainwright won a 3-setter over Leah Gabbard at No. 1 singles 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-4.
At No. 2 singles, Sarah Harpring fell 7-5, 6-1 to Micaila Rosenberger. At No. 3 singles, Katie Schroeder defeated Kaitlyn Johnson 6-4, 6-2.
The No. 1 doubles team of Casey Yager and Jill Yager defeated Ally Fields and Anna Porter 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, the duo of Nici Martin and Sarah Hershberger defeated Lacey Chambers and Tayler Cruse 6-3, 6-3.
In junior varsity action, Haley Riddell won 8-1. Larissa Dunn won 8-0. Riko Itakura won 8-3. Sarah Schombert posted an 8-1 victory. Courtney Hall won 8-0. Natali Miller and Abbey Whitaker won 8-1. Bridgette Welter and Payton Brower lost 8-5. Maddy Kasey and Courtney Hall won 8-1. Emilee Rogers and Whitaker won 8-3.
