Eagles quarterback Foles throws 7 TDs

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Nick Foles tied an NFL record with seven touchdown passes and threw for 406 yards to revitalize a struggling offense for the Philadelphia Eagles in a 49-20 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Foles connected three times with Riley Cooper to become the seventh quarterback in NFL history with seven TD tosses in a game. Peyton Manning did it for Denver on opening night this season against Baltimore.

Foles also threw scoring passes to Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson as the Eagles (4-5) looked nothing like the offense that failed to score a touchdown in each of the past two weeks.

The Raiders (3-5) had looked much improved on defense in recent weeks but were completely flummoxed by coach Chip Kelly’s spread offense that stalled in recent weeks after a fast debut in the NFL.

Hall of Fame center Bellamy dies at 74

ATLANTA (AP) — Walt Bellamy, the Hall of Fame center who averaged 20.1 points and 13.7 rebounds in 14 seasons in the NBA, died Saturday. He was 74.

The Atlanta Hawks confirmed the death, but didn’t provide details.

The former Indiana University star won an Olympic gold medal in 1960 and was the first overall pick by the Chicago Packers in 1961. He was the rookie of the year with Chicago, averaging 31.6 points and 19.0 rebounds, and also played for the Baltimore Bullets, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta and New Orleans Jazz.

Missouri State routs Indiana State 49-7

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Missouri State returned a school-record three interceptions for touchdowns on the way to a 49-7 blowout over Indiana State on Saturday.

Rique Bentley, Jeremy Springer and Sybhrian Berry each scored on interceptions as a part of a 28-0 third quarter for Missouri State (4-6, 4-2 Missouri Valley). Jeremy Springer almost returned an interception in the fourth quarter for a fourth defensive score but was knocked out of bounds at the Indiana State 12.

Missouri State outrushed the Sycamores 210-115. Ryan Heaston ran 14 times for 89 yards for the Bears and Mikael Cooper-Falls added 49 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

The Sycamores’ only touchdown came from the game’s first interception returned for a touchdown by Donavan Layne in the second quarter. After he tied the score at 7, Missouri State scored 42 unanswered points.

The loss snapped Indiana State’s (1-8, 0-5) three-game winning streak against the Bears.
