Lady Lion spikers cruise past Knights

AURORA – In a preview of the sectional semifinal, Rushville took on South Dearborn in volleyball action Thursday. The Lady Lions posted a 3-set victory over the Lady Knights 25-18, 25-11, 25-20.

Rushville and South Dearborn will meet in the sectional semifinal at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Batesville sectional.

“This was a very important game or us because we drew South Dearborn for our first Sectional game. We needed to make a statement and I feel that we did that. We still have some things to work on, but I am very proud of the ways the girls played,” Coach Meagan Hearne said.

For the Lady Lions, Allison Wainwright tallied one ace, seven kills and four digs. Brenna Hall had three digs. Carissa Comstock finished with four aces and one dig. Casey Yager added two kills, two assists and one dig. Kayla Shelton had two kills and three digs. Keely Springman had one ace, 24 assists and six digs. Keragan Niehoff added five aces, 17 kills, one block and eight digs. McKenzie Woolston had one ace, one kill and two digs. Tessa Hoeing finished with two kills, two assists and three digs.

Rushville won the junior varsity contest 25-14, 25-20.

For the Lady Lions, Adrianna Zepeda and Fran Percell both had one dig. Darbi Mello finished with two aces, six kills and five digs. Emma Harpring added one ace and one dig. Kayla Aldridge had one kill. Kelly Brown tallied two aces, one kill, nine assists and three digs. Mekyna Hall had three aces, one kill, one assist and four digs. Tori Colestock added one ace, five kills, one assist and three digs.
