Host Rushville faced a strong team in Richmond in the soccer sectional semifinal. The Lady Red Devils offensive power from Jordan McGuire was enough to knock off the Lady Lions 3-0.
McGuire, the fourth leading scorer in the state, got things going early as she fired a shot from inside the 18 and found the back of the net to make it 1-0 with 33:54 on the first half clock.
The Lady Lions kept Richmond scoreless until McGuire again found the net. McGuire chipped the ball over a diving Rushville keeper Nici Martin for her second goal and the 2-0 lead with 18:40 on the clock.
Rushville’s best two scoring opportunities in the first half came off the foot of Jill Yager and Jordan Linville. Yager’s shot was stopped by the Richmond keeper. Linville made a run to the front of the net before a sliding tackle by a Richmond defender stopped the threat.
Richmond added another insurance goal in the second half to seal the victory.
Rushville had shots on goal from Emilee Rogers, Linville, Katie Schroeder and Yager. Martin had 31 saves for the Lady Lions.
Coach Brashaber praised the seniors and how much they will all be missed and also praised Larissa Dunn again for the outstanding defense she played in the game.
The Lady Lions end their season at 2-10-2.
