Shelbyville holds off Lady Lions

---- — SHELBYVILLE – The Lady Lions traveled to Shelbyville to face the Lady Golden Bears in soccer action Saturday. The host squad knocked off the Lady Lions 3-1.

Rushville drops to 2-8-2 on the season.

Midway through the first half, the Lady Golden Bears broke the scoring drought with their first goal. Shelbyville’s offense was sparked by the goal as the Lady Golden Bears added another before the half.

Rushville got on the board as Jordan Linville was grabbed by the Shelbyville keeper and given a penalty kick.

The Lady Lions continued the offensive attack looking to even the score, but they could not find the net.

Shelbyville added another goal to seal the 3-1 victory.

Rushville’s Emilee Rogers had four shots on goal. Keeper Nici Martin had 14 saves for the Lady Lions.

Coach Karen Brashaber praised the play of freshman Alisha Markley. “She is some one that we can put anywhere on that field and be confident in,” Coach Brashaber said.

The Lady Lions travel to New Castle at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
