---- — NEW CASTLE – There were 18 teams, six ranked in the top 20, competing in the regional at Westwood golf course Saturday in New Castle. The Lady Royals of Hamilton Southeastern turned in the top team score to win the regional crown. The Lady Royals finished with 330. Noblesville and Yorktown both finished with 333. Those three teams will advance to the state finals at the Legends of Indiana in Franklin.
Cathedral’s Karli LaGrotte was the medalist on the day. She won a playoff with Columbus North’s Sydney Anderson, both finished with 74.
Five girls advance to the state finals individually. LaGrotte and Anderson will be joined by Anderson’s Morgan Nadaline (77), Emily Tilton (78) and Whiteland’s Alexa West (81). West won a 3-way playoff with Batesville’s Madison McCreary and Connersville’s Lindsey Hackleman to earn the final state qualifying position.
Rushville seniors Catie Liggett and Abbey Gulde rounded out their high school playing careers.
Liggett got off to a great start, evening her personal best with a 37 on the front nine. She followed that up with a 46 on the back for 83.
Gulde opened her round with a 53 on the front and closed out her day with a 52 on the back for 105.
The state finals begin Friday in Franklin.
