On Saturday, September 21, the RCHS Lady Lions soccer team honored the memory of Markus Strobl. Prior to the beginning of the game, all in attendance paused to honor the memory of former RCHS girls soccer coach Markus Strobl. Coach Strobl lost his battle with cancer earlier this fall. Strobl coached from 2006 until 2010, and touched many lives while doing so. Appreciation was expressed not only for what he did for the RCHS girls’ soccer program but also for the girls he coached along the way.
Sara and Becca Strobl (former RCHS soccer player and player/ manager) along with four senior players took the field. These now senior team members were freshmen during Markus’s last year as head coach. They are Nici Martin, Mariah Fenimore, Jill Yager, and Katie Schroeder along with now head coach, Karen Brashaber. She began her coaching career as the assistant coach with Strobl. Sarah and Becca were presented tokens of appreciation in honor/memory of their dad. First, they received team T-shirts with the cancer logo ribbon and Coach Strobl’s name on the sleeve. They were also presented with a “U-ROCK” shirt which is given to players who have given great effort in games. It seems fitting that Coach Strobl be remembered with an ultimate “U-ROCK.”
In addition, buckets were placed at the entrance to the gate and at the entrance to the stands for donations to our Rush County Schools Legacy Fund in memory of Coach Strobl. These gifts to the Legacy Fund in memory of Coach Strobl will go to support all Rush County Schools.
