Lions shut out host Panthers, 5-0

KNIGHTSTOWN – The Lion soccer team traveled to Knightstown and returned with a 5-0 victory over the Panthers.

Dale Clifton got the scoring started for the Lions as he scored just over six minutes into the game. Luke Sheehan had the assist.

With six minutes to play, Derrik Justice scored off the Treyton Meal assist to make it 2-0 at the half.

In the second half, Ethan Foster scored the first of his two goals at the 28:43 mark with Justice on the assist. Zach Stiers assisted on Foster’s second goal.

Ricky Thompson capped the scoring for the Lions at the 21:28 mark.

“We played much better this evening,” Coach Bob Beeler said. “We worked the ball up front a lot better, getting 33 shots on goal. Defensively, when you hold anyone scoreless, you’ve done a great job.”

Rushville had 33 shots while the Panthers had just two.

The Lion soccer team fell to conference foe East Central 4-0.

The Trojans scored two goals in each half.

“We were in pretty good shape, going in 2-0 at halftime,” Coach Bob Beeler said. “We had played them well defensively; we just couldn’t get any shots ourselves.”

With less than five minutes gone in the second half, East Central scored again to make it 3-0.

“At that point we were still in it,” according to Beeler, “but we still couldn’t muster any shots. They had a solid defense.”

The Trojan’s final goal came at the 9:05 mark.

The Lions managed 10 shots on goal, three each by Derrik Justice and Ricky Thompson, two by Treyton Meal, and one each by Ethan Foster and Sam Beavers. Goalies Frank Sammons and Jon Seals recorded eight saves.

The junior varsity Lions fell 2-0 to the Trojans.

The Lions travel to Greensburg Saturday.
