Lady Lion swimmers open season

SHELBYVILLE — The Lady Lion swimmers opened the 2013-14 season at Shelbyville Tuesday against the host Lady Golden Bears and Connersville.

The Lady Spartans won the team title with 142 followed by Shelbyville 60 and Rushville 42.

“The girls swam great in their first meet of the season,” Coach Ryan Standish said.

Brenna Hall had the top finishing position for the Lady Lions as she took second place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:28.76. Mekyna Hall was third in 1:29.83. Brenna Hall was also fifth in the 50 freestyle in :31.25 with Brooke Cameron sixth in :37.30.

The Lady Lions’ 200 medley relay team of Fran Percell, Brenna Hall, Abby Clark and Mekyna Hall placed fifth in 2:45.47.

In the 200 freestyle, Erin Moore was fourth in 3:25.68 and Lindsey Flannery was fifth in 3:41.75.

Clark took fifth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 3:45.24.

Cameron finished fifth in the 100 freestyle in 1:28.51 with Flannery sixth in 1:36.67.

In the tough 500 freestyle, Clark took fourth in 8:08.64 with Moore fifth in 9:08.16.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Brenna Hall, Mekyna Hall, Percell and Cameron finished fourth in 2:21.83. The team of Flannery, Jessica Schlechtweg, Moore and Teagan Warner finished sixth in 2:39.69.

Percell finished the 100 backstroke in 1:57.75 for fourth place with Schlechtweg sixth in 2:10.33.

In the final event, the 400 freestyle relay team of Clark, Flannery, Moore and Mekyna Hall finished fifth in 5:55.45.
