The BRMS seventh-grade boys Red fell to Sunman-Dearborn 24-15.

For the Cubs, Duncan had four points and one steal. Carroll added two points and three rebounds. Miller had one rebound. Cain added two points and one steal. Aaron Trebley scored two points. Austin Trebley had one point and one rebound. Crain and Zeisloft both had one rebound. Baker finished with four points, two rebounds and two blocks.

The eighth-grade boys Black fell to Sunman-Dearborn 45-37. Austin Farley led the Cubs with nine points. Landis Gettinger had seven points. Zach Hoeing and Lane Hornberger both had six points.

Basketball tourney

Connersville will host a holiday basketball tournament at the Connersville Regenstrief Boys and Girls Club. The tournament will run Dec. 21 through Jan. 5 for both boys and girls. Grade groups will be first and second, third and fourth, and fifth and sixth. The drawing will be Dec. 14. Hoosiers pull away from Stony Brook 90-74

BLOOMINGTON (AP) — Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell scored 24 points and freshman Noah Vonleh had his fourth straight double-double Sunday to help Indiana pull away from Stony Brook 90-74.

Ferrell turned up the tempo in the second half as the Hoosiers (4-0) finally got in a little rhythm in yet another foul-plagued game. Vonleh had 18 points and 15 rebounds — producing the most consecutive double-doubles for a Hoosier since D.J. White (five straight) in 2007-08.

Stony Brook (3-1) was led by Carson Puriefoy with 22 points and Jameel Warney had 19, but the Seawolves were called for 31 fouls and sent Indiana to the free throw line 49 times.

Still, the Hoosiers just couldn’t put it away till late.

Indiana opened the second half on a 12-6 run, extending a six-point halftime lead to 53-41 with 15:23 to play and sealed the win with a late 12-4 spurt.

Purdue handles Rider 81-77

WEST LAFAYETTE (AP) — Ronnie Johnson scored 16 points to help Purdue defeat Rider 81-77 on Sunday night.

Terone Johnson scored 14 points, Sterling Carter had 13 points and four steals and Bryson Scott added 11 points for the Boilermakers (3-0). Center A.J. Hammons scored just one point in 12 minutes and was plagued by foul trouble.

Anthony Myles scored 19 points, Daniel Stewart scored 16, Jimmie Taylor had 13 and Zedric Sadler added 11 for the Broncs (0-2).

Purdue shot 51 percent from the field but made just 16 of 31 free throws. Rider made 24 of 31 free throws to stay in the game.

Myles hit a 3-pointer with 38.8 seconds left to cut what had been a seven-point Purdue lead a minute earlier to 77-75.

Carter made two free throws, then Ronnie Johnson had a steal and layup to push Purdue’s lead to 81-75 with 20.3 seconds to play.

Ohio holds off rally, defeats Valparaiso 76-72

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Maurice Ndour scored a game-high 23 points and Nick Kellogg added 16 as Ohio held off Valparaiso 76-72 Sunday.

The Bobcats (2-1) jumped out to a 23-10 lead midway through the first half and led by 12 at half. Valparaiso pulled within four early in the second half, but Ohio surged with an 11-3 run to take a 51-39 lead.

The Crusaders (2-2) would crawl back again, coming back to take a late 72-70 lead on a pair of Jordan Coleman free throws.

Ohio answered with six consecutive free throws, as Ricardo Johnson sank three and Kellogg hit two.

Valparaiso went cold for the rest of the game, missing their last five shots in the final 1:43.

LaVonte Dority led the Crusaders with 20 points and Alec Peters added 16 with a game-high 14 rebounds.

Ohio had four players in double figures, as Johnson and T.J. Hall each had 11.
