Lions top Raiders in season opener

RUSHVILLE —  The Lions opened the baseball season with an 8-3 victory at Shenandoah.

Rushville got things started quickly as lead-off hitter Austin Maggard started the game with a solo home run.

Rushville scored two in the top of the first. The Raiders knotted the game with a run in the bottom of the first and a run in the bottom of the third. The Lions took the lead for good in the fourth with a run and then exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth. The Raiders had one run in the fifth.

The Lions pounded out 11 hits and committed three errors.

John Riddell had a pair of singles and a double to lead the offense. Mark Busald added two singles. Austin Niehoff had a double.

Mike Busald picked up the win on the hill for the Lions. He went four innings allowing just one earned run and two hits while striking out four.
