NEW CASTLE - The Lady Lions opened the tennis season with a 3-2 victory at New Castle.
At No. 1 singles, Allison Wainwright won 6-2, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Rosella Troyer won 6-2, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Sarah Harpring lost 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 1 doubles, Jill Yager and Casey Yager lost 7-6 (2), 6-2. The No. 2 doubles team of Nici Martin and Lucy Dyer won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
“We’re pleased with the overall outcome tonight as all seven of our varsity kids are playing at new positions this year,” Coach Heuer noted. “I thought we served well despite the windy conditions. It’s important to get off to a good start and gain some confidence to build on.”
The Lady Lions dropped their home opener 3-2 to Franklin County.
Troyer picked up a win at No. 2 singles 6-2, 7-5. Rushville’s other win came at No. 1 doubles where Jill Yager and Casey Yager won 6-0, 6-1.
At No. 1 singles, Wainwright lost 6-3, 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Harpring lost 6-1, 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team of Martin and Dyer fell in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
“We came up a little short in a close match that could have gone either way. Our kids that we’ve paired up at doubles are new to each other and are still getting used to playing together,” Coach Heuer added.
