HOF announces 2013 Silver Anniversary team

RUSHVILLE —  Eighteen women have been named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2013 Silver Anniversary Team, based on outstanding accomplishments as a senior basketball player 25 years ago.

The team includes 10 members of the 1988 Indiana All-Star squad, among them Indiana’s Miss Basketball. Eight other all-state players are included to comprise the best of Indiana’s high school class of 1988.

Brebeuf’s Vicki Hall was the state’s 1988 Indianapolis Star Miss Basketball, also taking Gatorade National Player of the Year and Naismith National Player of the Year honors that season.

Other 1988 Indiana All-Stars on this year’s Silver Anniversary Team include Cara (Guillion) Alfele, Meredith (Sanders) Barone, Debbie Bolen, Beth (Davis) Fagan, Kristal (Stahl) Fiser, Donna (Gill) Fisher, Melissa (Nelson) Hartman-Compton, MaChelle Joseph and Tracy Roller.

Melissa (Nelson) Hartman-Compton (Rushville 1988 Indiana All-Star) was a varsity starter for every game over four years, including a trip to the state finals as a freshman. Teams were 78-18, including four sectional championships, two regional championships and one semi-state championship.

She scored a school record 1,447 points and grabbed 896 rebounds (a school record that still stands) in her career. She also still holds the single-game record of 24 rebounds in one contest. Averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds, 60%FG and 70% FT her senior season. Received 12 varsity letters in her high school career. She played basketball at Butler University and graduated from the University of Nebraska Sigma Cum Laude. She has been a real estate consultant for the past eight years. She is married, lives in Fishers, has two children of her own and two stepchildren and her son Collin will attend IU next year on a basketball scholarship.

The remaining eight, named to various all-state teams are: Cami Cass, Hope (Hershberger) Chambers, Sandy Herre, Terrilyn Johnson, Colleen (Jordan) Loberg,

All Women’s Silver Anniversary Team members will be honored at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 12th Annual Women’s Banquet on Saturday, April 27, 2013.
