BROOKVILLE — Franklin County was the host for the IHSAA wrestling sectional where the Lions finished eighth as a team and qualified five individuals for the regional in Richmond Saturday.
Rushville senior Garrett Hittle won the sectional title at 182. Hittle defeated Franklin County’s Josh Orschell 9-6 in the semifinal and won the title over Connersville’s Dylan Shirkey by injury default.
Rushville junior Tristenn Miller finished runner-up to East Central’s Tyler Moore.
Also qualifying for the regional are Randy Collyer (fourth at 106), Zach Roszell (fourth at 113) and Nick Hornaday (fourth at 285).
Rushville’s Preston Bowling (fifth at 152) and Grant McLaughlin (fifth at 160) are alternates for the regional.
In the first round at the Richmond Regional, Hittle (32-3) will face Hunter Davis (10-7) of New Castle. Miller (30-8) will take on Austin Walls (22-13) of New Castle. Collyer (16-17) will face Ryan Surguy (25-3) of Shenandoah. Roszell (17-16) will face Brandon Miller (23-9) of Tri and Hornaday (13-13) will take on Nate Tarwick (35-2) of Richmond.
Wrestlers just need to win the first round match to ensure themselves of a ticket to the semistate in New Castle.
