Pass, shoot and dribble contest

The 2013 Rushville Breakfast Optimist Pass, Shoot and Dribble Contest will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 at the Rush County Boys and Girls Club. The competition is open to all girls and boys ages 8-13 (divisions of ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13). Trophies will be awarded to the top three in each age group. Winners of each age group will have the opportunity to advance to the regional competition in February.

BRMS basketball tournament

The BRMS seventh-grade boys Black won the tournament title at Batesville.

In the first game, the Cubs defeated St. Louis 42-19. Scoring for the Cubs included Jordan Smith 11, Duncan Draper 10, Cameron Craig seven and Mason Springman six. Springman led the team in rebounding with six followed by Craig with five. Craig led team with seven steals and Draper had four blocked shots. Springman, Smith and Wilson all had three assists.

The rallied in the second game to beat an undefeated North Decatur team 34-27. Draper led the way with 10 points and nine rebounds, followed by Craig’s seven points, six rebounds and five steals. Springman had seven rebounds and three assists. Wilson hit a pair of 3-pointers for six points.

In the championship game, the Cubs put together a complete game, taking an early lead and never looking back in defeating Batesville 47-27. The team played execellent defense the entire game. according to Coach Jerry Craig. Springman led the Cubs with 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Craig had 12 points. Draper had eight points, six rebounds and three blocked shots, and Smith had four assists, four steals, and overall had an excellent floor game all three games for the young Cubs. The Cubs are 9-3 for the season. Next game is at Connersville on Monday.
