Lady Lions roll to EIAC victory

---- — GREENSBURG - The Lady Lions got back to their winning ways Saturday with a 53-33 victory over conference foe Greensburg. The Lady Lions improve to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the EIAC. The Lady Pirates drop to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The Lady Lions jumped out to a 13-7 lead after the first quarter. Freshman Kaitlyn Howe drained a pair of 3-pointers in the opening quarter. Mackenzie Campbell added four points and Keragan Niehoff had three.

Rushville pulled away in the second quarter - scoring 21 points and holding the Lady Pirates to just nine. Niehoff and Howe both had six points in the quarter. The Lady Lions were able to get to the charity stripe - connecting on 10 free throws as they built the lead to 34-16 at the half.

The offensive surge by the Lady Lions continued in the third quarter. Rushville outscored the Lady Pirates 17-5 in the eight minute session. Three buckets by Campbell and another five points from Niehoff spurred the Lady Lions’ offense. Kylie Martindale, Makayla Herbert and Howe also joined in the scoring effort as Rushville led 51-21 after three quarters.

The Lady Lions only managed two points in the fourth quarter - a bucket by Lilly Cramer. The damage in the first three quarters was enough as the Lady Lions picked up their first EIAC victory 53-33.

Howe and Niehoff scored 14 points each for the Lady Lions. Campbell finished with 13. Herbert had four points. Cramer, Brooke Ash, Kelsi Ash and Martindale all had two points. McIntosh led the Lady Pirates with 14 points, six coming in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Lions play host to Greenwood (4-5) today and Lawrenceburg (6-2) Saturday.
