The Lions were firing on all cylinders offensively over the weekend as Rushville connected on 20 3-point field goals en route to the sweep of EIAC foe Franklin County Friday and Blue River Valley Saturday.
The Lions seemingly could not miss from the field in the first quarter Saturday against BRV. Rushville hit nine 3-pointers in the first eight minutes of action and led 35-8 after the first quarter. The visiting Vikings could not recover from the onslaught from long range as the Lions posted the 85-44 victory.
Rushville junior Bryce Dye had the hot hand Saturday, scoring a career-high 21 points, including five triples in the game and four in the first quarter.
Cameron Cox and Alex Yurack added 3-pointers in the quarter. Ricky Thompson and Mitch Laird closed the opening eight minutes with back-to-back triples to give the Lions the 35-8 lead.
Rushville continued the offensive pressure in the second quarter, outscoring the Vikings 19-8. Nate Niehoff scored eight points and Kris Combs added two more as the Lions pushed the lead to 45-8 before a bucket by BRV’s Jonah Madison stopped the run. Dye’s final triple and a nice brother-to-brother assist from Alex to Austin Yurack for the bucket closed the half with Rushville leading 54-16.
BRV came out of the break looking to compete and they did in the second half. Rushville outscored the Vikings only by three points in the third, but still led 67-26 heading to the fourth quarter.
Both teams poured in 18 points in the final frame, but the early onslaught was too much for the Vikings to overcome. Rushville moves to 3-1 on the season with the 85-44 win.
Following Dye’s 21 (four rebounds, seven assists and four steals) for the Lions was Niehoff with 17 points (seven rebounds, two assists and one steal), Alex Yurack with 15 points and Cox with 10 points. BRV was led by Josh Berry with 11 points.
