Hello, bowling fans ! This is Jim Ephlin, at the Rushville Bowl, where all the action is.
Winter leagues are in full swing except for the youth so we have one of the first tournaments of the season up and running. It`s called the Miller Lite Beer Frame Baker Bowling Blast. The tournament is put on by the Indiana Bowling Centers Association so it will be a statewide tournament.
The first thing a team must do to be eligible is roll a “Beer Frame” any time during league play. Once all bowlers have struck in the same frame the team becomes eligible and fills out an entry blank and pays a one time $ 20 entry fee. This tournament is for 3 person, 4 person or 5 person teams.
The next phase for a team is to try to qualify as our house winner by hitting their “target score” in three tries utilizing a Baker team format. When the team hits their beer frame we take their averages and divide by the number of bowlers to determine their target score. They can do their attempt after league in most cases or come back out to the center at an agreed upon time. If the hit their Target Score they are in the State Finals to represent our house. If more than one team hits their Target Score there will be a roll off.
At the State finals (Jan. 12. 2013) the teams will bowl five Baker games and the team will take their cumulative score difference of the three games from its target score. The object is to be as close as possible to zero as a cumulative difference. For example target score is 175 and you roll 178 - 200 - 170 - 175 - 164 you would have a score of 3 + 25 + 5 + 0 + 11 for 44. The lower the score the better you have done. Indiana is in the Great Lakes Region which includes Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. The state final champion from these five state that rolls the best score gets $ 7,500. There is a Super Bonus that if your team rolls its target score exactly all five games you receive $50,000.
The first youth league of the season is about to begin on Sunday, Oct. 28. That`s right I said Sunday, which will surprise some people as “Junior League” has been on Saturdays forever. This program is geared for bowlers 6 to 12 years of age. The program is called 8 for 8 because we bowl for only 8 weeks (finishing Dec. 16) at only $8 per week. The $8 includes shoe rentals, membership and at first a ball to use. The big deal about this league is that everyone gets their own brand new ball upon completion of the program. You can sign up for the 8 for 8 program on our web page at www.RushvilleBowl.com.
The Senior League for bowlers 7th grade and above starts Nov. 10 and we are currently signing up bowlers here at the lanes or just phone in at 932-5389. Start time will be 11:30 a.m. Saturdays and we will have teams of 4 per team.
