Boys basketball: North Decatur at Rushville, 6 p.m. (JV)

BRMS girls basketball

The BRMS seventh-grade girls Red fell 29-23 to St. Michael in the four-team tourney at Connersville. The squad rebounded to knock off Connersville in the consolation game 33-27. For the day, Marissa Sullivan had 21 points followed by Olivia Vance 18, Breanna Carpenter 14, Emma Lux one, Madison Hinshaw one and Caitlin Philpot one.

The Lady Cubs defeated Union County to start this week 25-15. Sullivan led the Lady Cubs with 10 points and two rebounds followed by Lux four points and seven rebounds, Hallie Fenimore four points, Hinshaw three points and six rebounds, Carpenter two points and 13 rebounds and Philpot two points.

The eighth-grade Black fell to Doe Creek 37-21. River Paddack led the Lady Cubs with 11 points. Ainsley Flannery had three points followed by Alexis Thompson two, Peyton Simpkins two, Becky Muir two and Emily Duncan one.

The team then defeated Knightstown 30-22. Paddack led the way with 12 points followed by Thompson 10, Duncan four, Flannery two and Muir two. Branson, Simpkins and Brianna Smith all contributed in the win.

The seventh-grade Black defeated Doe Creek 36-29, hitting key free throws (8-of-9). Tayler Browning led the Lady Cubs with 13 points. Allie Smith finished with 11 followed by Dru Niedenthal eight, Karley Yager two and Sullivan two.

Boys basketball sectional tickets

Boys basketball sectional tickets will be on sale in the RCHS athletic office through noon Tuesday. Season tickets are $10.

Illinois St. topples Indiana State 77-59

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Illinois State drained a 3-pointer just seconds into the game, connected on its first six shots and Daishon Knight scored five of his 20 points in the opening flurry that upended Indiana State 77-59 Wednesday night.

The Redbirds (16-13, 9-8 Missouri Valley Conference) are mired in a cluster of four teams fighting for third place in the MVC, but are 8-1 at home against conference foes and had no trouble upending second-place Indiana State (21-8, 12-5) with Knight’s 20 and 16 points each by Reggie Lynch and Zach Lofton.
