---- — One of four IHSAA wrestling semistates is set for New Castle Saturday and the Lion wrestling program will be represented by three grapplers.
Regional champions Garrett Hittle and Tristenn Miller advanced following their titles last week in Richmond. The third qualifier is Nick Hornaday, who makes the trip to New Castle due to an injury to Lawrenceburg’s heavyweight.
Hittle won the regional title at 182 and is 35-3 on the season. He will face Wesley Boone of North Montgomery (26-8) in the first round. With a victory, Hittle will take on the winner of Jacob Imbro of Franklin Central (26-8) or Ben Elliott of Noblesville (30-6).
Miller won the regional crown at 220 to improve to 33-8 on the season. Miller faces Jacob Cooper of Triton Central (29-14) in the first round and will look to avenge a regular season loss to Cooper. With a victory, Miller will take on the winner of Hamilton Southeastern’s Georges Brantley (24-7) and Lawrence North’s Tremayne Perryman (28-13).
Hornaday was an alternate to the semistate and will advance due to injury. Hornaday will face Greenfield-Central’s Tyler Beeson (35-1) in the first round.
Wrestlers need to win the first two rounds to earn a berth in the IHSAA state finals next weekend in Indianapolis.
