---- — PLAINFIELD — The third straight win of the season for the Lady Lions may have come at a huge price. Junior Sarah Cook, who led the Lady Lions with 18 points in less than three quarters of action, went down with an apparent knee injury.

Despite the loss of the versatile junior, the Lady Lions rolled to the 80-51 victory at Plainfield. Rushville is 3-0 while Plainfield drops to 2-1 on the young season.

The Lady Lions took control of the game from the start. Freshman Kaitlyn Howe drained a 3-pointer to open the scoring and her second triple gave the Lady Lions an early 8-3 lead. After Plainfield fought back to tie the game at 10-10, a Cook bucket ignited a 10-1 run to close out the first quarter with Rushville leading 20-11.

The Lady Lions scored the first 12 points of the second quarter. Cook’s bucket started the run. Makayla Herbert followed with a 3-pointer and Cook and Kelsi Ash added the rest as Rushville led 32-11. Plainfield broke the scoring slump with a bucket at the 4:34 mark. Rushville did not let up, going on an11-4 run to close the half. Keragan Niehoff’s bucket pushed the lead to 24 points. An Ash bucket had the lead at 28 before the Lady Quakers closed the half trailing 43-18.

Plainfield had its best quarter in the third as the Lady Quakers doubled their point out-put with 18 points. But the Lady Lions matched that to hold a 25-point lead through three quarters. Cook’s injury came with a little over two minutes to play in the third. Two Mackenzie Campbell free throws sent the game to the fourth quarter with Rushville holding the 61-36 advantage.

Plainfield could not make a run in the final eight minutes. Eleven Lady Lions scored in the game to guide Rushville to the 80-51 victory.

Cook led the way with 18 points followed by Howe 17 and Campbell 10. Kyndall Spears had 12 to lead Plainfield and Kayla Casteel added 10.

In the opening game of the night, the Lady Lions pulled away from Plainfield in the fourth quarter to post the 51-38 victory. Rushville led at every break – 14-11 after one quarter, 26-17 at the half and 34-32 after three quarters.
