KNIGHTSTOWN — Glory days. Do you cherish memories of playing varsity basketball for the Knightstown Falcons, Carthage Blue Raiders, Spiceland Stingers, Kennard Leopard Cats, Cadiz Spaniards or any other high school team in and around Henry County? Do you get excited at the cheers of a capacity crowd in a cracker-box gym? Do your feet long for the feel of a pair of cushiony Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars?
If so, the Hoosier Gym wants you. The old Knightstown gym, home of the Hickory Huskers in the movie “Hoosiers,” invites you and your teammates to suit up for a series of old-timers’ basketball games to be played next June.
It will be one of the many events the Hoosier Gym Community Center of Knightstown is planning for its Hoosiers Reunion celebrating the 25th anniversary of the filming of “Hoosiers.”
Depending on the response from players, there will be a series of games leading up to a final game or games to be played Sunday, June 6 at the Hoosier Gym.
“We’re organizing this event to give local people a better opportunity to participate in our Hoosiers 25th anniversary celebration and to recognize players who helped make high school basketball an Indiana tradition in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s,” said Mervin Kilmer, president of the Hoosier Gym.
Other activities planned for the 25th anniversary event are the annual Hoosiers All-Star Classic Basketball Doubleheader, autograph sessions, parade, sock hop dance and movie showing.
An organizational meeting and shoot-around will be held at the Hoosier Gym in early December. Anyone interested in playing in this event is asked to contact Tom Hoepf, secretary of the Hoosier Gym, by calling 765-345-5389 or e-mailing him at tomhep@hrtc.net.
