School supply help this week

The Salvation Army Tools for School

Free school supplies sponsored by The Salvation Army Tools for School program provides basic school supplies for children whose parents cannot afford the items necessary for their children to succeed in school. The Salvation Army will once again be handing out a limited number of free school kits (1 kit per student) for K-12 students of Rush County. The only requirements of eligibility to receive a school kit are that the student must attend a Rush County School and the student must be present when picking up the school kit. School kits are to be picked up at the First Church of God (1200 W. US HWY 52 – enter through the main entrance doors from the parking lot) each morning this week from 9 a.m. to noon until Friday, Aug. 2 or until supplies last. For more information call 765-932-5138.

Backpacks and supplies from Cellular Connection

The Cellular Connection, in a joint effort with its customers, will be donating 60,000 backpacks full of school supplies to children through its School Rocks Backpack Giveaway initiative.Local families can bring their children to the store between noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, to pick up a backpack filled with pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, glue and more. The participating store in Rushville is located at 1814 N. Main St. Each store will donate between 100 and 150 backpacks. Leftover backpacks will be donated to local schools.

Family Focus Time at Hoosier Gym

The public is invited to attend a “Family Focus Time” at the Hoosier Gym from 7-9 p.m. on Aug. 10 hosted by the Ministerial Fellowship of Knightstown. Christian entertainer Tab Beechler will be providing piano music and favorite songs for this event of fun and fellowship. Area churches are now collecting school supplies and funds for book rental fees which will be given to all who need them during this event. This is one way for the community to share their generosity. For further information, contact your minister or Deacon Russ Woodard of the Knightstown Minister’s Fellowship. For more information about the music of Mr. Beechler, go to tabbeechler.com. Plan now to attend this fun-filled evening at the HoosierGym. Concessions will be available through the Hoosier Gym Association.
