Spilman receives IUHPFL Award of Excellence

RUSHVILLE — Former resident, Shelley Spilman, was presented the Indiana University Award of Excellence on Sept. 25, 2012. The award is in recognition of outstanding performance in the 2012 Honors Program in Leon, Spain.

The IU Foreign Language Program is offered to high school juniors. Students must pass a rigorous verbal and written test to be selected for the program. The students are not allowed to speak English for the six week summer program. Students are evaluated at the end of the program by both teachers and the host family. The students must earn a score of 42.5/50 to earn the Award of Excellence.

Shelley received a score of 50/50. She is the daughter of Gary Spilman and Jane Meyer. Shelley is also the granddaughter of Mr. Cecil Spilman, and David and Connie Artmeier. She is currently a senior at Jac-Cen-Del, High School in Osgood. Shelley hopes to major in foreign language at the John Wesley Honors Program at Indiana Wesleyan University upon graduation.
