RUSHVILLE — As a tribute to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Department of Student Programs (sponsored by the Indiana Association of School Principals) provides an essay contest for middle level and high school students.

Students were asked to reflect on the following quote – “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy.”  Entries were judged on the basis of content and development (50 percent), and language and mechanics (50 percent.)

Congratulations to Sarah Harpring for being designated the First Place Winner in the Senior Division (grades 9-12) of the Indiana State Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest. She received a certificate of accomplishment and check for $500.

“It is no small thing that a talented writer from Rush County rose to the top in this kind of contest.  We commend Sarah for her excellent writing,” stated Judy Hatfield, English teacher at RCHS.
