The RCHS Spell Bowl team traveled to Shelbyville on Monday, Oct. 14 to participate in the area Spell Bowl qualifying competition. Even though the team was short four competitors, they finished in 1st place for their division. RCHS placed 4th overall for the evening.
Junior Dylan Marlatt was honored for being a Perfect Speller as he made it through all 9 words without one miss. Other team members included Karyn Banks, Carrington Houser, Jordan Kenney, Kevin McMinn and Kristina Spaeth. Shelbyville finished in first place but did not qualify for state competition in their division. South Decatur took second place overall and qualified for state in their division. Although Rushville took 1st place in their division, the score was not high enough to qualify for state competition.
Coaches Julie Litten and Kemmie Mitzell state, “We are so proud of our team members and were especially pleased with the performance turned in by Dylan Marlatt. Even though the Spell Bowl season is over, the academic team will now concentrate on EIAC quiz bowl matches.”
