Mays students keeping active

Rushville Republican

RUSHVILLE — 001:

Mays K-2 students had a great day to visit the Nature Center. Mr. Kuhn gave the students a tour of the flower gardens, showed them how the sun dial works, demonstrated how to appropriately use various musical instruments there, let the children smell the herbs in the herb garden, and then allowed the students to choose some seeds to take home to plant next spring. We appreciate all that Mr. Kuhn does to keep the Nature Center such a fun and educational place to visit.

First-graders from Mays were given a royal tour of the Rush County Historical Museum in October. Students experienced many hands-on activities including the one pictured here. Mrs. Smith is having the students participate in grinding coffee in an antique coffee grinder. Mrs. Leisure would like to thank Mr. Al Hodge, Mr. Jim Payne, Mr. John Wilson, Mr. Steve Mahan and Mrs. Libby Smith for the informative, fun and interactive experience they gave to the class while there.

The Little Hoosiers History Club from Mays recently was entertained by Mr. Kevin Stonerock, a local story teller from the Knightstown area. Mr. Stonerock portrayed the life of a Hoosier pioneer to a full classroom of members and their guests. The program was partially funded by the Indiana Junior Historical Society.
