Benjamin Rush Middle School eighth grade students recently received a program on depression awareness and prevention. Cindy Harcourt, licensed clinical social worker, from Harcourt Counseling Services gave the program to all eighth grade health classes. Through discussion, role plays and mental health bingo, students learned the symptoms of depression, the types of treatments and how to support someone who may suffer from depression. They also learned how to use positive coping skills to help keep them emotionally healthy.
Rush County Mental Health Association donated an informative video about teen depression that students watched before Mrs. Harcourt came to the classrooms. Pictured is Cindy Harcourt with some of the students from Mrs. Alspaugh’s fifth period health class.
