---- — This fall Rush County Schools offered another way for students to opt back into school and secure their general diploma. The Opportunity School has been functioning for almost three months and is beginning to see students gain ground toward their diploma goals. Currently thirteen (13) students attend the Opportunity School located at the Administration Building on 8th Street. Typically they attend one of two learning blocks from 8:30 to11:30 a.m. and/or 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. (attendance is required). Students pay a fee for the use of technology & materials and must provide their own transportation to the Opportunity School.
Mrs. Kara Scheidler, the Opportunity School Coordinator, brings a wealth of experience to this newly formed school having coordinated alternative education and providing guidance for school districts in Shelby County. In the past 17 years she has been a 7th Grade Teacher at Benjamin Rush Middle School, Social Studies Teacher at RCHS and more recently a counselor at Benjamin Rush Middle School. “The Opportunity School is an exciting venture for students who want to receive their diploma in unique learning environment. Course curriculum for the Opportunity School classes requires students to meet the same rigorous academic standards and mastery as students attending classes at RCHS. This is not an easier way to learn, but rather a different way to learn. We are already seeing students succeed as they earn credits toward their diplomas,” cited Scheidler.
Those wanting to attend the Opportunity School must apply at RCHS and can do so by contacting Mr. Kirk Amman at (765) 932-3901 or by e-mail at AmmanK@rushville.k12.in.us Acceptance into the Opportunity School program is reviewed by a selection committee. It is an honor to be accepted into the Opportunity School for these students have already been recognized for their potential to be academically successful. The second semester will be here before we know it! Those wishing to attend the Opportunity School should contact RCHS as soon as possible.
Opportunity School – one more reason why Rush County Schools are a great place to be.
