---- — In 1984, a group of high school principals met to develop a program to honor and encourage excellence, integrity, and commitment to the two areas of education deemed most important - learning and teaching. Thus the I-Star award was created.

Rushville Consolidated High School is proud to announce the recipients of the prestigious 2013-14 I-STAR Awards. The Indiana Student Teacher Achievement Recognition program is a cooperative effort among Centerville, Connersville, Franklin County, Hagerstown, Lincoln, Rushville, Tri and Union County high schools. This award is open to the top 10 percent of the seniors in each high school. Three seniors are selected from each school based on their application. The focal component of the application is the selection of an educator who the student believes has made the strongest contribution to their individual and scholastic development. The student-applicant must submit a written explanation of why the educator was selected for this honor.

The RCHS students earning I-STAR awards this year include Mariah Fenimore, Becca Riggs and Kayla Shelton.

Shelton is the daughter of Kimble and Karen Shelton. She selected high school foreign language teacher Meagan Hearne. Shelton plans to attend Indiana University or Manchester College to study accounting and business administration.

Fenimore is the daughter of Bruce and Joann Fenimore. She chose high school Math teacher Karen Brashaber. Fenimore plans to attend Trine University to become a Civil Engineer.

Riggs is the daughter of Gregg and Cheryl Riggs. Her selection was high school science teacher Carol Fenimore. Her future plans are to attend Black Hawk College to pursue a career as a veterinarian/geneticist.

These individuals were honored with a dinner and recognition program on March 6 at Lincoln Middle/High School in Cambridge City.
